HCMC targets industrial growth of 7% in 2017 Vu Yen HCMC – The city’s industrial growth is expected to rise by more than 7% this year compared to last year, according to the HCMC Department of Industry and Trade. Four key industries — mechanical engineering, electronics, chemicals-rubber-plastics, and processed food — are projected to expand 7.2%. Total retail sales of goods and services to surge 8-8.5%. The city will strive to keep its consumer price index (CPI) growth below the country’s. Turnover from exports, excluding crude oil, will rise 8% while commercial electricity output will rise by 8.6% to 24.1 billion kWh. To reach these targets, the industry and trade sector will focus on implementing the price stabilization program, developing domestic goods distribution systems, promoting exports, removing difficulties faced by enterprises and supporting production in HCMC. Pham Thanh Kien, director of the Department of Industry and Trade, said at a review conference last Friday on the city’s 2016 industry and trade performance and a 2017 plan that the city will put into use a pork quality control application after a trial period.
