Rupert Everett stunned viewers during his appearance on Piers Morgan's Life Stories as he opened up about his extraordinarily unusual family life. The actor, 61, revealed he was shipped off to boarding school at age seven, and when he returned home in the holidays he shared a bed with his mother until he was a teenager. Rupert also told Piers he went on his first fox hunt when he was 11, and his family members smeared the blood of the dead fox on his face. "I loathed it, I hated it, I screamed and ran off," he said. Piers asked: "Did he ever tell you he loved you?" Rupert replied: "No of course not, nobody in my family ever said that, the biggest compliment in my family you used to get was 'well parked' in driving. "I had a great deal of affection for my mother, I slept with my mother until I was 14, and we wheeled toes together in the bed. "I had a very tactile relationship with my mother, but not any of the men in my family." New badger cull bids dash campaigners’ hopes of early end to killing programme
Thousands more badgers face being shot this autumn after a dozen new applications were made for cull licences. Natural England said it received “12 licence applications /expressions of interest in respect to 2021 badger control licensing”. Answering a request for information from a member of the public, it also revealed the controversial scheme could take place in 14 counties this year: Berkshire, Cornwall, Devon, Gloucestershire, Hampshire, Herefordshire, Northamptonshire, Oxfordshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, the West Midlands, Wiltshire and Worcestershire. If the licences are granted, it would be the first time culling had been authorised in Hampshire and Northamptonshire. More than 40 existing, four-year licences will continue in 2021 alongside the new licences, if they are granted. The revelation about new applications dashes the hopes of campaigners who hoped the announcement earlier this year(2021) of a Government plan to phase out culling could curb … [Read more...] about New badger cull bids dash campaigners’ hopes of early end to killing programme

Virtual reality has found a new role: Teaching doctors to deal with patients
For medical students and junior doctors, training can be hit and miss. Sometimes you sit down with an actor who plays the part of a patient and rehearse giving a difficult diagnosis, sometimes there's a dummy that you examine, with a colleague shouting out imaginary symptoms along the lines of "His blood pressure's gone through the floor!" or "She looks sweaty and confused now!" In most cases, your imagination has to do the legwork, converting the unmoving peach-coloured rubber torso into a patient urgently in need of assistance or the actor into someone who's about to get bad news. If you're lucky, you get to practice this way a few times a year. If you're in a pandemic, you might not even get that. With training oftentimes taking place in hospitals, students and trainers now can't go to these facilities in order to reduce the risk of transmitting COVID. So now a number of universities and medical institutions are turning to virtual reality to bridge the training gap. … [Read more...] about Virtual reality has found a new role: Teaching doctors to deal with patients
