US donates thousands of masks for Thai hill tribes

Despite Thailand going over 2 months without a locally transmitted case of Covid-19 , the US embassy has sent thousands of face masks to Chiang Rai province. A representative of the US embassy delivered the masks, valued at around 458,000 baht, to authorities in Chiang Rai this week. Regional US honorary consul general Sean O’Neil says the USA wants to help provide protection to the hill tribe people living in the remote mountains. “We are honoured that the Thai authorities trust us to help provide this equipment. We believe the Covid-19 face masks will be helpful for the poverty-stricken citizens during this pandemic and hope they will help them stay safe from the virus.” Thailand, which began strict containment and lockdown measures in March, hasn’t recorded any local transmissions of the virus in over 60 days. This remarkable record, which some credit to the genetics of people in countries along the Mekong Delta including Vietnam and Laos, without evidence, has impressed … [Read more...] about US donates thousands of masks for Thai hill tribes

Boulder police break up massive party on University Hill

A large, out-of-control party on University Hill raged for several hours Saturday evening until Boulder police were able to disperse the large crowd, but not before hundreds of people gathered with no social distancing, set off fireworks and flipped a car. Social media posts about the gathering near Pennsylvania Avenue and 10th Street began shortly before 7 p.m. Saturday, as hundreds of college-aged revelers packed the street with no social distancing and very little mask wearing. Boulder police spokeswoman Dionne Waugh said police estimated that there may have been up to 800 people in the area at one point. Waugh initially said police were “aware of what’s going on and have been developing a strategy response.” Shortly before 8:30 p.m. Saturday, a Boulder police SWAT vehicle arrived and began telling those gathered over the loud speaker to disperse or face “arrest,” “tear gas,” or “use of force.” A large number of people dispersed upon seeing the police vehicle, but some … [Read more...] about Boulder police break up massive party on University Hill

Brakeless tour bus driver safely stops on Patong Hill

PHUKET: A tour bus driver’s cool head prevented a runaway bus on Patong Hill from becoming the latest serious accident in a seemingly endless string of crashes, some fatal, on this notorious road. When police arrived at the scene, the Amphol Seatiew tour bus had come to a stop after scrapping against a utility pole outside of Wat Suwankiriwong, at the base of Patong Hill. “There were 20 Chinese tourists on the bus. Luckily, none of them were injured,” said Maj Weerapong Rakito of the Patong Police. The driver, who police declined to name, eventually revealed himself to police. “He said that the bus suffered from brake failure, so he slowed the bus by deliberately scrapping it along the power pole,” said Maj Weerapong. The driver was charged 5,000 baht for driving an unsafe vehicle and causing damage to property. However, the company responsible for the vehicle and its maintenance was not charged, confirmed Maj Weerapong. — Voratuss Intasee Keep in contact with The … [Read more...] about Brakeless tour bus driver safely stops on Patong Hill
