South America’s Largest Genre Film Festival Fantaspoa Sets 2020 Digital Edition With Streamer Darkflix

EXCLUSIVE: Brazil’s Fantaspoa Fantastic Film Festival, which is the largest genre event in South America, has locked a partnership with local streaming service Darkflix to allow it to host its 16th edition online, and free for local audiences. The 2020 edition of the fest was originally scheduled to take place in May this year, but had to be postponed due to the pandemic. As the virus is far from being contained in Brazil (the country now has both the second-highest number of infections and deaths in the world), organizers have ultimately decided that a physical edition will not be possible this year, and instead will pivot online. Running July 24 – August 2, Fantaspoa will see Darkflix host a number of Latin American premieres of new genre films, and will feature a total of 110 features and shorts from 35 countries. Each title will have a cap of 5,000 viewers and will be geo-blocked for viewers in Brazil. Lexus LFA Drag Races Mercedes SLR McLaren 722 Edition Roadster

These supercars still have plenty of speed. Neither the Lexus LFA nor the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722 Edition Roadster is on the market anymore, but they still have impressive performance. In this video from Lovecars , Tiff Needel gets behind the wheel of the Lexus, and the owner is at the controls of the SLR for the drag race. The LFA remains a very special supercar in large part because of its naturally aspirated 4.8-liter V10 engine that can rev to 9,500 rpm. The result is one of the best-sounding road cars ever. Gallery: 2010 Lexus LFA 8 Photos Before McLaren got really serious about building its own vehicles, there was the SLR as a joint venture with Mercedes. It packed a 5.4-liter supercharged V8 with extra tuning for the 722 Edition making 641 horsepower (478 kilowatts), which was 84 hp (63 kW) more than the standard version. 5 Common Myths About PTSD

As a nation simultaneously struggling with a healthcare pandemic, an economic crisis, and significant social justice issues, heightened levels of anxiety and stress have become the norm. That’s why now is a critical time to gain a better understanding of PTSD —and how to recognize its symptoms in ourselves and those around us. As with many emotional and mental disorders, PTSD can come with a stigma that can itself be dangerous, as stigma can cause sufferers to keep quiet and avoid getting help. These stigmas are fueled by misinformation in American discourse, and it’s high time to debunk some of the most common among them. Myth 1: PTSD is an invisible disease that is all in someone’s head. False. The absence of visible symptoms makes PTSD hard to see with the naked eye. The invisible wound can make it hard for family and friends to believe it’s real, especially if the sufferer hasn’t personally experienced a violent or traumatic event. While it’s true that you … [Read more...] about 5 Common Myths About PTSD

CAF president’s ban reduced but re-election hopes over

JOHANNESBURG: Confederation of African Football president Ahmad Ahmad's five-year ban from football has been reduced to two years, the Court of Arbitration for Sport said on Monday, ending his hopes of re-election this week. The ruling clears the way for South African billionaire Patrice Motsepe to replace him and become the organisation's eighth president in its 63-year history. Ahmad was banned from football for five years by FIFA in November and fined 200,000 Swiss francs after an ethics investigation by world soccer's governing body, which found the 61-year-old guilty of offering and accepting gifts and other benefits as well as of misappropriation of funds. On appeal, CAS on Monday reduced the ban to two years - meaning Ahmad cannot stand for re-election this week - and cut his fine to 50,000 Swiss francs. Why this AI engineer is using sci-fi to unpack tech’s biggest problems

advertisement advertisement advertisement S.B. Divya’s new science fiction thriller, Machinehood , is set in a not-too-distant future when people have access to tabletop biotech labs that churn out everything from cures for new diseases to performance-enhancing drugs. But they find that taking such drugs is all but mandatory as they compete for paying gig work in an economy where more and more jobs can be done by artificial intelligence. advertisement advertisement Before she was a published author, Divya was an engineer with a background in computational neuroscience and data science, as well as computing hardware and software. She talked to Fast Company about how her work has shaped her writing, the not-quite-dystopian world she envisions in Machinehood , and why she’s still optimistic about the future. The interview has been edited for length and clarity. How did your tech career inform your writing?
