Former Sabah chief minister Musa Aman charged with 35 counts of corruption

PUTRAJAYA: Former Sabah chief minister Musa Aman was on Monday (Nov 5) charged with 35 counts of corruption involving about US$63 million. The charges relate to logging contracts in Sabah. He allegedly received bribes in exchange for offering timber concessions in the east Malaysian state. Musa, who claimed trial, was allowed to be released on bail of RM2 million (US$479,000) with two sureties. He was also ordered to surrender his civil and diplomatic passports to the court. His case will be mentioned again on Dec 13. Musa was arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) at its headquarters at 10.05am on Monday. The MACC said in a statement that it had received consent from the Attorney-General's Chambers to charge Musa under the Anti-Corruption Act (ACA) 1997. KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman on Tuesday (Oct 23) took a jab at opposition leader Ahmad Zahid Hamidi following his comment that the recent quake-tsunami in Indonesia was "punishment from Allah" for the activities of gay people. Najib Razak summoned to anti-graft agency again, could face new charges: Reports

KUALA LUMPUR: Former Malaysian prime minister Najib Razak and former Treasury secretary-general Irwan Siregar have been summoned to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters in Putrajaya on Wednesday (Oct 24). The two men have been asked to present themselves at 2pm to record their statements concerning payments from scandal-hit state fund 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) to Abu Dhabi wealth fund International Petroleum Investment Company (IPIC), according to MACC sources. The former prime minister is expected to face new charges in connection to the 1MDB scandal, with the New Straits Times reporting he is expected to answer to at least four more charges related to 1MDB's dealings with IPIC and the Star Online reporting the former premier will face six charges. Israel raids Ramallah after two soldiers shot dead

RAMALLAH, Palestinian Territories: A Palestinian shot dead two Israeli soldiers at a bus stop in the occupied West Bank on Thursday (Dec 13), the military said, sparking army raids in the city of Ramallah during which a Palestinian was killed. In response, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to 'legalise' thousands of settlements homes considered unlawfully-built even by Israel. The attack came hours after security forces killed two Palestinian murder suspects. In total six people were killed in the most violent 24 hours to hit the West Bank and Jerusalem in months. The Israeli army said a Palestinian exited his car at a bus stop near the Ofra settlement in the West Bank before opening fire on soldiers and civilians. Legal proceedings against Rosmah done according to law: Malaysia PM Mahathir

PUTRAJAYA: The legal proceedings against Rosmah Mansor , the wife of former prime minister Najib Razak, are being done according to the law, said Dr Mahathir Mohamad on Thursday (Oct 4). Referring to a claim by Rosmah's daughter, Ms Nooryana Najwa Najib, that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) had gone too far in arresting her mother , Dr Mahathir said the action was not taken out of revenge. "If it's against the law, the legal process will be carried out; that is our promise and there is no idea of revenge and anything like that," the prime minister told reporters on the sidelines of the sixth ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Disaster Management.
