We live in feminine times. Pantone’s Colour of the Year 2019 is “Living Coral”, a vibrant shade of pink resembling the coral used in jewellery making. On the red carpet, celebrities like Harry Styles and Jared Leto are showing up in sheer fabrics and dresses. In Paris last week, Dior’s Kim Jones showcased his Spring Summer 2020 men’s collection against a backdrop of pink sand and crystal shards, with clothes splashed in Pepto-Bismol hues. The set was designed by artist Daniel Arsham, whose idea it was to present a futuristic world that had been unearthed. Proof that Singapore is a ‘food capital’: Odette restaurant is No 18 globally
Singapore's Odette restaurant leapfrogged into the Top 20 of the World's 50 Best Restaurants at the ceremony held at the Marina Bay Sands' Sands Theatre on Tuesday night (Jun 25). Helmed by chef-owner Julien Royer, the modern French restaurant located at the National Gallery climbed to No 18 on the list, up 10 spots from its ranking last year. “It feels amazing! It’s an amazing journey since we started this place. Jumping 10 spots has been amazing," Royer told CNA Lifestyle after the ceremony. "Last year was our first year on the list. We were No 28 and one year later we are No 18 – so I guess 8 is our lucky number. So let’s push further and let’s work harder to be No 8 next year!” Royer, who moved to Singapore in 2008, added that the globally-recognised awards being held in Singapore was proof of the country's standing in the world of gastronomy. Restaurants Dependent on Takeout Orders Seeing Rise in Credit Card Chargeback Fraud
Takeout and delivery orders have offered many restaurants a financial lifeline during the coronavirus lockdown. But some dining establishments are falling prey to a new kind of dine and dash in which customers dispute legitimate credit card charges related to an order, forcing the restaurant to foot the entire bill. The takeout scam has become so prevalent that it is forcing some restaurants out of business, CBSLA reported . Called “chargeback fraud,” the restaurant variety is frequently happening through a delivery service, like Grubhub or UberEats, which already take a percentage out of the restaurant’s profit in the form of service fees. To pull off the scam, a customer will receive the food order but then dispute the charge with his credit card company, which issues a refund. In the end, the restaurant takes a loss on the whole order. The scam is spreading at a time when many restaurants are already hanging by a thread as Democrat-controlled cities and states continue … [Read more...] about Restaurants Dependent on Takeout Orders Seeing Rise in Credit Card Chargeback Fraud
Baton Rouge restaurants welcome loosened coronavirus rules, but expect ‘negligible’ impact
The state moved back into Phase 3 of the coronavirus restrictions Wednesday, but most business owners said they don’t see it making much of an impact on their operations, despite guidelines being the loosest they’ve been in nearly a year. “The difference is negligible,” said Brad Watts, who owns Kalurah Street Grill , Cecelia and The River Room. “But the positive component is perception. People think it’s safe to go back out.” While restaurants are allowed to open to 75% of capacity in Phase 3, up from 50%, tables must still remain 6 feet apart. From a practical standpoint, that means most restaurants won’t be able to add extra seating. Jason Lees, who co-owns Roux 61 , said he doesn’t know how a restaurant can bump its seating up 25% and still keep tables socially distanced “unless you have an extremely large space.” The Bluebonnet Boulevard seafood restaurant is just under 10,000 square feet, making it one of the larger restaurants in the city. “At least we’re moving … [Read more...] about Baton Rouge restaurants welcome loosened coronavirus rules, but expect ‘negligible’ impact

How doodling and art can keep kids entertained while dining out in fancy restaurants
A couple of weeks ago, I happened to be sitting at the bar at Eat Me, one of Bangkok’s most respected restaurant, and one that has appeared on the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list several times since the survey’s inception. I was having a quick dinner after being filmed snacking on a few different dishes as b-roll for a new television series I’ve been filming for CNA (which will premiere in October). While the crew went downstairs to have their own dinner (Chef Tim Butler kindly whipped up a spread for them), I stayed at the upstairs bar in order to finish off and not waste the dishes used for filming. While there, I noticed two staff behind the bar shuffling through some papers, finally extracting two. One had a black and white line drawing of Dumbo the flying elephant. The other was a portrait of Disney’s version of Rapunzel. The staff member then pulled out a box of crayons and walked the art supplies over to a family seated on the patio. I thought that was marvellous. By … [Read more...] about How doodling and art can keep kids entertained while dining out in fancy restaurants
