Beijing will carry out multiple measures to tackle the growing digital divide for the elderly and make sure they are able to share the benefits of a smart society. Beijing will implement 52 specific measures to help the elderly in this year, including simplifying online medical services and providing voice-led guidance, according to the Municipal Commission of Development and Reform. As smart technology brings convenience to society in many sectors, its wide usage has also raised some obstacles for older people, who are less familiar with smart phones and the internet. The city will introduce a total of 162 measures through 2022. Of those, 73 percent were implemented last year. A further 52 measures will be implemented this year and 37 more in 2022. Beijing's Tongzhou district announced recently that Universal Studios Beijing will open in May and that a trial version of the theme park's app is now available online with details about the shows and themed rides in the park. The park, located in eastern Beijing, will feature seven themed lands, including The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Minion Land and Hollywood. It is expected to receive more than 10 million tourists per year. Once it opens, tourists will be able to navigate to the main entrance, dubbed Universal CityWalk Beijing, by taking the Beijing Subway Batong Line or subway Line 7. The trial version of the app includes a list of themed attractions that will be unveiled at Beijing Universal Resort, along with its entertainment and performance projects. BEIJING : Geely Automobile and sister company Volvo Cars will abandon merger plans but launch a new entity to combine their powertrain operations and expand cooperation on electric vehicles, the companies said on Wednesday. A year ago the two said they were planning to merge and list in Hong Kong and possibly Stockholm, giving Volvo access to public markets, as global automakers pursue alliances to respond better to the cost of the transition to electric cars , tougher emission rules and autonomous driving. In a joint statement on Wednesday Geely Automobiles and Volvo Cars that they would perserve with their existing separate corporate structures after "a detailed review of combination options".
