Janet Jackson documentary: Two-part film to cover Michael Jackson and Super Bowl controversy

A Janet Jackson documentary is in the works, with the star reportedly giving unprecedented intimate access and "leaving no stone unturned". The programme, which has the working title Janet , will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the star's self-titled debut album, released in 1982 when she was just 16, and is set to air early in 2022. The announcement comes just weeks after Jackson's infamous Super Bowl "wardrobe malfunction" in 2004 came back into the international spotlight when her co-performer Justin Timberlake - who exposed one of her breasts on stage - issued a public apology for the way he dealt with the incident in the aftermath. Jackson, 54, who bore the brunt of the criticism while Timberlake's solo career flourished, will give her side of the story in the programme. She will also talk about the death of brother Michael Jackson in 2009 and discuss her romantic relationships, as well as becoming a mother later in life, US network A&E said. … [Read more...] about Janet Jackson documentary: Two-part film to cover Michael Jackson and Super Bowl controversy

Hidden doorways and a Tibetan singing bowl – a salon made for Instagram

Hair salons are a dime a dozen in Singapore. However there is one that is hoping to be, erm, a cut about the rest. Located in a former office space and hidden away from plain view on the 14th level of Ngee Ann City Tower B is Chez Vous: HideAway – which unabashedly bills itself as Singapore’s most Instagrammable hair salon. How so? For starters, there are seven different zones set up as a maze across its 1800 sq ft interior, each offering a different experience. Part-salon, part-sanctuary and part-playhouse, it hopes to eschew the traditional idea of high-end salons (chandeliers, marble flooring) with new design features (hidden doorways, digital aquatic art installations). Customers looking for a good freebie on top of a good selfie will appreciate the complimentary spa extras the new salon offers. Guests are encouraged to drop by 15 minutes ahead of their appointment to enjoy the relaxation lounge boasting teas, snacks and leather massage chairs equipped with … [Read more...] about Hidden doorways and a Tibetan singing bowl – a salon made for Instagram

India vs England: Joe Root’s side bowled out for 205 on another disappointing day with the bat

England endured another disappointing outing with the bat in India, being bowled out for 205 on day one of the fourth Test in Ahmedabad, before a James Anderson strike with the ball briefly lifted spirits late on. The visitors were again undone by Axar Patel (4-68), as the left-arm spinner took his wicket tally to 22 for his three maiden Test appearances in the series, and this coming on a surface that didn't turn as much as the one used for the two-day third Test at the Narendra Modi Stadium last week. Ben Stokes (55) scored a 24th Test half-century, while Dan Lawrence (46), recalled to the side to strengthen the batting, did just that with some useful runs from No 7 in the order, but England never threatened to post a considerable first-innings score despite again having first use of the pitch after winning the toss. Fourth Test scorecard: India vs England Day One in Ahmedabad - as it happened Lawrence, along with Dom Bess, was one of two changes to the … [Read more...] about India vs England: Joe Root’s side bowled out for 205 on another disappointing day with the bat

Tasty, filling, affordable salmon and tuna Hawaiian poke bowl at Aloha Poke

If you ask us, poke – those Hawaiian rice-bowls topped with juicy chunks of marinated raw fish – is the best thing to happen to the office lunch. It’s super tasty and filling, cheaper than Japanese chirashi (sushi rice bowls topped with diced sashimi, which we also love), and fortified with vegetables and all sorts of ingredients that would make a sushi chef baulk. Take the salmon and tuna poke bowl from Aloha Poke. Each bowl starts at S$10.90 and comes with the option of a salad or rice base, along with a scoop of marinade-slicked salmon or tuna. If you’re not into raw fish, you could also pick from cooked options like sesame tofu and king mushrooms. Then add on the likes of flying fish roe, cherry tomatoes, raisins or seaweed for S$1 each, or premium toppings like quail eggs or baked almonds for S$1.50 each, and you have yourself a pretty jazzed-up lunch bowl. Three years have passed since Aloha Poke first introduced the Hawaiian speciality to Singapore. And to … [Read more...] about Tasty, filling, affordable salmon and tuna Hawaiian poke bowl at Aloha Poke

Prawn stock, dumpling and balls – shrimp ‘ramen’ la mian launches with 1-for-1 deal

There is something innately comforting and satisfying about a piping hot bowl of noodles in rich, savoury soup. The folks at Paradise Group know this, and so they’ve opened Le Shrimp Ramen in the basement of Paragon. No, the name isn’t a frou-frou French affectation. The “Le” indicates Paradise Group’s Chinese name, Le Tian. Le Shrimp Ramen is the first concept in Singapore to offer la mian served in shrimp broth topped with big prawns. Hey, wait - doesn't that sound like the hae mee from your local hawker centre? Not quite. This broth is cooked Japanese ramen-style, with baked big prawns hand-ground and then simmered for more than eight hours with Chinese spices and premium conpoy. Each bowl’s broth is prepared individually: First, scallion oil is scalded in a wok; then, cabbage is flung in to char before a large ladle of shrimp stock is poured in to boil. This lends the dish a signature smoky flavour that elevates the sweetness and umami of the prawn. A celebration of the sick day: If you need that MC tomorrow, just take it

From a young age, I learned that sick is comfort; sick is to be cared for. When I stayed home with an earache in second grade, my dad didn’t double-check my homework or make me practice piano exercises twice on each hand. He brought me a bell so I could ring him and gave me three M&M’s for every dose of antibiotics that went down without a fuss. Undoubtedly, my penchant for minor ailments comes from a place of privilege. My physical body is healthy, which is why its occasional maladies have become phenomena that I get to relish. I recognise that chronic illness is another story, of course. But when I feel a cold coming on, I don’t stir Emergen-C and up my citrus intake, I lean in. My taste for illness solidified in high school, when I came down with mono. For two weeks, I lay in bed with a high fever while the kissing disease transformed my reputation. Along with the virus, I had contracted an air of mystery — the possibility that I was locking lips with someone my … [Read more...] about A celebration of the sick day: If you need that MC tomorrow, just take it
