Navigating the paperwork and requirements necessary to obtain a Federal Firearms License (FFL) is not easy, especially if you want to be home-based. For that reason, Brandon Maddox wrote “Federal Firearms License Guide” to help would-be applicants understand everything they will need to know in order to secure an FFL. Maddox advertised his book on Facebook and in late September received letters from the social media giant informing that his ads had been taken down and his account disabled because he was advertising things that ran against Facebook policy. On October 5, Breitbart News spoke to Maddox and he said that because his advertisements contained the word “firearms” they were flagged and finally rejected by Facebook. He was not selling guns but a book on how to get a federal license to make, sell, or repair firearms, often from home. Maddox stressed that he does own stores where he sells silencers, but he said that was not part of his Facebook advertisement. Rather, … [Read more...] about Facebook Disables Author’s Account Because of Word ‘Firearms’

Former Tesco directors to face trial over accounting scandal
T hree former Tesco directors will stand trial on Monday to face charges over the company’s £263m accounting scandal. Christopher Bush, Tesco UK’s former managing director, Carl Rogberg, the company’s former UK finance director, and John Scouler, its former UK food commercial director, have been accused of abusing their positions to falsely inflate the grocer’s profits in 2014. The three men have been charged by the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) with one count of fraud by false accounting and one count of fraud by abuse of position, which can lead to prison sentences of up to seven and 10 years, respectively. They pleaded not guilty at a hearing at Southwark Crown Court last month. The retailing giant stunned the market in September 2014 when it revealed that it had identified the profits overstatement just weeks after current chief executive Dave Lewis took over from predecessor Philip Clarke, causing its shares to dive 12pc. … [Read more...] about Former Tesco directors to face trial over accounting scandal
Tesco restores dividend for first time since accounting scandal
T esco boss Dave Lewis has reasserted his “confidence” in the retailer’s turnaround plan by unveiling the first shareholder payout since the supermarket cut its dividend three years ago in the wake of its accounting scandal. Britain's biggest retailer said it would pay a 1p dividend alongside announcing a 71.8pc jump in half year profits to £885m. Mr Lewis denied that the ongoing fraud trial of a trio of former Tesco directors had cast a shadow over his attempt to draw a line under the saga. “Today's announcement that we are resuming the dividend reflects our confidence that we can build on our strong performance to date and in doing so, create long-term sustainable value for all our stakeholders,” said Mr Lewis. Laith Khalaf, analyst at Hargreaves Lansdown, said that the 1p dividend was “only a small amount, but this payment is symbolic in nature.” Tesco sales were 3.7pc higher to £28.3bn in the six months to August 26, its seventh consecutive quarter of growth. One Kiwi’s account of homophobia in Australia in the lead-up to the gay marriage vote
I was home alone the December evening that Malcolm Turnbull announced marriage equality was "a win for Australian values". It was such an exciting moment that I took a photo of the TV news for posterity, then ran out to the balcony to see if the rest of the world on the street below was also cheering for the bill passing. They weren't. Well, it's not that nobody was celebrating – there were huge parties around the country, and had been earlier when the postal vote was announced too. But it's just that where I was, in inner-city Brisbane, the leaves were still blowing in the wind and that roaming cat was still wandering the street with her bell tinkling. Life seemed to be continuing pretty much as it had a few moments earlier. It was, in all, a bit of an anti-climax. Which was, an absolute contrast to the intensity of the past several months since I moved to Australia.
