India records 16,738 new Covid cases; goes past 15k after a month

The daily rise in coronavirus infections in India was recorded above 15,000 after nearly a month taking the country's total tally of COVID-19 cases to 1,10,46,914, according to the Union health ministry data updated on Thursday. Photograph: PTI Photo A total 16,738 infections were reported in a day, while the death toll increased to 1,56,705 with 138 daily new fatalities, the data updated at 8 am showed. On January 29, 18,855 new infections were recorded in a span of 24 hours after which it stayed below 15,000. The daily deaths were registered above 130 after a gap of 26 days. The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 1,07,38,501 which translates to a national COVID-19 recovery rate of 97.21 per cent and the case fatality rate stands at 1.42 per cent. 220 new cases of HIV reported in Singapore between January and October

SINGAPORE: A total of 220 new HIV cases were reported among Singapore citizens and permanent residents in the first 10 months of this year, said the Ministry of Health (MOH) on Tuesday (Dec 1). Singapore reported 323 HIV cases for the whole of 2019 and 313 the year before. The health ministry said it analysed 125 of the new cases, which were reported between January and June. The majority – 90 per cent – were men. Most were below 60 years old, with 42 per cent aged between 40 and 59 and 37 per cent aged between 20 and 39. Malaysia reports 822 new COVID-19 cases, 2 more deaths

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's health ministry reported 822 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday (Nov 11), raising the national total to 42,872 infections. Sabah accounted for 259 of these new cases and also reported three new clusters, bringing the total number of active clusters in the state to 26. To date, there have been a total of 21,448 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the state. Malaysia also recorded two new deaths, taking total fatalities from the pandemic to 302. Eighty-six patients are currently in the intensive care united with 30 requiring respiratory support, said health director-general Noor Hisham Abdullah. All eateries in Sabah have been permitted to offer dine-in services throughout the enforcement of the conditional movement control order (CMCO) . 7 new COVID-19 cases in Singapore, all imported infections

SINGAPORE: Singapore's seven new COVID-19 cases were all imported infections, said the Ministry of Health (MOH) on Wednesday (Nov 25). One of them is a Singapore permanent resident who returned from India. Four are work permit holders who travelled from India, the Philippines and Indonesia. A student's pass holder arrived from India, while the remaining case involved a short-term visit pass holder who travelled from Ukraine to board a ship docked here as a crew member. All of the cases were placed on stay-home notice upon arrival in Singapore, said MOH. They were tested while serving their stay-home notice. There were no new locally transmitted cases for 15 consecutive days. Mumbai:Pvt ICUs fill up, jumbo Covid hospitals see admissions rise

Mumbai : Jumbo Covid-19 hospitals have gone on a recruiting spree once again with an increase in admissions in the past few days. With a sharp increase in positive cases , private ICUs have started to fill up, while wards have seen an uptick in admissions as well. At BKC’s jumbo Covid-19 hospital, dean Dr Rajesh Dere said they have been hiring doctors, nurses and ward boys for the past two days. The hospital on Thursday had 321 patients, up from an average of 180 till last week. “We have nearly 700 active beds, but we are hiring manpower that is needed to run 2,000 beds,” Dere said. For now, the plan is to recruit over 200 doctors and staffers. The ICU occupancy has now gone up to 40 from an average of 30 till last week. A similar recruitment drive was underway at the Nesco jumbo hospital in Goregaon.
