The Silverado is due for a mid-cycle refresh for 2022. With Ford and Ram battling it out for off-road supremacy, there’s one brand noticeably absent from the fight – Chevy . The Bowtie brand doesn’t have a truck capable of competing with the F-150 Raptor and TRX, though that could soon change. Spy shots from UTV Driver captured what appears to be the Silverado ZR2 out testing in Tennessee alongside other variants of the truck. There have been rumors of such a model in development for months, with a report from last year shedding some light on what the potential off-road pickup could offer . The truck is expected to receive Multimatic DSSV dampers, a taller ride height, front and rear locking differentials, unique bumpers for better approach and departure angles, skid plates, and aggressive off-road tires. The spy shots from UTV Driver show the pickup riding higher than usual while sporting Goodyear Wrangler tires. The global chip shortage extends its adverse effects. Production stoppage, especially for a carmaker's best-selling model, is definitely a headache. The Bow Tie brand is facing that exact problem with the Chevy Equinox , the company's second-best-selling vehicle standing right behind the Silverado. The crossover also ranks seventh overall in the list of 2020's best-selling vehicles in the US , just behind the Toyota Camry. According to a report by Automotive News , General Motors had to shut down its plant in Ingersoll, Ontario due to a chip supply shortage, connected to the ongoing semiconductor crisis. General Motors has finally revealed its plan to fix the issue at the center of last year’s Chevy Bolt recall , which the automaker issued in response to a handful of battery pack fires. Affected customers have to bring their Bolts to a dealer so the battery packs can be inspected, and GM says some of the modules that make up the pack may be replaced if any “anomalies” are found. But dealers will also install “advanced onboard diagnostic software” on all of the affected vehicles. That software, GM says, will be able to “detect potential issues related to changes in battery module performance before problems can develop.” The company says the software will be standard on all new Bolts moving forward. Following last year’s recall, GM released a software update to dealers that limited the affected Bolts’ full battery capacity to just 90 percent in an effort to prevent fires. The company says dealers have been instructed to remove that limit when customers bring their Bolts in to … [Read more...] about GM’s installing software on Chevy Bolts to help prevent battery fires

Chevy will take its truck know-how and apply it to EVs. During General Motors' Q1 financial report call with investors, a Deutsche Bank analyst asked specifically about the Silverado EV . It gave CEO Mary Barra the chance to talk a little about the upcoming truck. "And again, we have incredible know-how in this company and how to do full-sized trucks and we're taking that into an EV-propelled vehicle, and that I think is going to give us a winning formula. I'm excited to share that vehicle with everyone because it's just stunning," Barra said . GM is expecting strong demand for the electric Silverado, according to Barra. She believes the Utlium platform could help the company achieve market leadership. In April, Chevy confirmed the Silverado EV.
