OLONGAPO CITY: Bataan on Friday recorded 53 new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases, with neighboring Zambales posting 29 and 12 in Olongapo City, indicating a rise in virus infections in these areas. According to the latest report of Bataan Gov. Abet Garcia, 53 new Covid-19 cases were added on Friday, increasing the number of active cases to 586. Based on data from the Bataan Provincial Health Office, the total cases in the province now stand at 4,761 with 4,057 recoveries and 118 deaths. One-hundred-thirty-four persons deprived of liberty or PDLs at the Bataan District Jail were also among those affected by the coronavirus disease. The provincial health office placed the number of those who have been vaccinated with anti-Covid-19 vaccines at 7,707. Fourteen officers were injured after petrol bombs and roof tiles were thrown at police during another night of disorder in Belfast. The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said most of the injuries were not serious but one officer was knocked unconscious and needed hospital treatment. The violence broke out despite a renewed call for calm out of respect for the passing of the Duke of Edinburgh . Police said there was disorder in various parts of the city including Duncairn Gardens and the Tiger's Bay area. Fourteen officers were injured as a result of disorder on North Queen Street. California’s Big Cities Ask State for $16 Billion to Build 100,000 Homes for Homeless
A coalition of mayors from California's 13 most-populated cities are urging the state legislature to approve $16 billion in funding to build over 100,000 homes for the unhoused. The group of mayors, known as the Big City Mayors, sent a letter appealing for the funds to the leaders of the legislature on Thursday. The letter was addressed to state Senate President Pro Tempore Toni Atkins, state Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon and the chairs of the Senate and Assembly's respective budget committees, state Sen. Nancy Skinner and state Assemblymember Phil Ting. "While our economic challenges make it difficult to identify an ongoing revenue source, the large amount of one-time funding presents a generational opportunity to make a dramatic move to address our homelessness crisis," the mayors wrote.
