Wall Street retreats after solid start to March

REUTERS: Wall Street's main indexes dropped on Tuesday after a strong start to March as bond yields pulled back from a one-year high, while investors also looked to cues on progress in the next round of fiscal stimulus. The S&P 500 on Monday logged its best day since June as markets cheered approval of a third COVID-19 vaccine in the United States and the U.S. House of Representatives' green light for a US$1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package. The U.S. Senate will start debating President Joe Biden's relief bill this week when Democrats aim to pass the legislation through a maneuver known as "reconciliation," which would allow the bill to pass with a simple majority. "The market works like a pendulum and has a tendency to go down after seeing gains like in the previous session," said Randy Frederick, vice president at Charles Schwab in Austin. "But concerns over lofty valuations and inflation persist even as the overall trend seems to be positive." The technology … [Read more...] about Wall Street retreats after solid start to March

Start of Indian Premier League Twenty20 postponed to April 15

MUMBAI: The start of the Indian Premier League Twenty20 tournament has been postponed until April 15 as a precautionary measure against the spread of the coronavirus, the Indian cricket board (BCCI) said on Friday. It had been scheduled to begin on March 29. The Indian government said late on Wednesday it would cancel almost all visas issued for travel to India until April 15 to try to prevent the spread of the virus, and the country's sports secretary said on Thursday the national cricket team's coming matches should be played in empty stadiums. "The Board of Control for Cricket in India has decided to suspend IPL 2020 till 15th April 2020, as a precautionary measure against the ongoing Novel Corona Virus (COVID-19) situation," the board said in a statement. "The BCCI is concerned and sensitive about all its stakeholders, and public health in general, and it is taking all necessary steps to ensure that, all people related to IPL including fans have a safe cricketing … [Read more...] about Start of Indian Premier League Twenty20 postponed to April 15

US House leaders unveil coronavirus Bill; Capitol tours suspended

WASHINGTON: Democrats in the US House of Representatives on Wednesday (Mar 11) unveiled a broad package of proposals to help Americans affected by the COVID-19 outbreak, while officials suspended public tours through the Capitol building. The legislation, which Democratic leaders aimed to rush to the House floor for debate and passage on Thursday, would grant workers 14 days of paid sick leave and up to three months of paid family and medical leave, a summary of the Bill shows. Other provisions in the 124-page "Families First Coronavirus Response Act" introduced late on Wednesday include unemployment insurance to furloughed workers and hundreds of millions of dollars in additional funding for children's, seniors' and other federal nutrition programs. An additional US$500 million would be provided to help feed low-income pregnant women or mothers with young children who lose their jobs or are laid off because of the virus outbreak. Another US$400 million would help local food … [Read more...] about US House leaders unveil coronavirus Bill; Capitol tours suspended

Project Triangle Strategy demo is promising for those who loved Fire Emblem: Three Houses

As a longtime Fire Emblem fan, I can't help but be drawn to Project Triangle Strategy (lacklustre working title aside). After playing Fire Emblem: Three Houses to death back in 2019, I'm more than ready for a new strategy-based adventure and Square Enix's upcoming RPG seems to fit that bill perfectly. As the second game in Square Enix's HD-2D series, the delightful sprite style seen in Octopath Traveler makes a comeback, and brings to mind the old school vibes of classic strategy games that landed on the Game Boy Advance so many years ago, like Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones and Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. After seeing a brief glimpse of Project Triangle Strategy in the most recent Nintendo Direct , I was all too keen to jump right in and check it out for myself. I've since played through the demo a few times, and I've already found a lot to love about Square Enix's strategy RPG… but there are some aspects that give me a moment's pause. Still, whether you're a Fire Emblem … [Read more...] about Project Triangle Strategy demo is promising for those who loved Fire Emblem: Three Houses

Los Angeles’ creator community is starting to move out

Logan and Jake Paul moved to Los Angeles in 2014 , at the height of Vine’s heyday, and not long after found themselves crammed into an apartment at 1600 Vine Road with other young creators hoping to make it big in America’s entertainment epicenter. Over the next few years, they became world-renowned celebrities (often for the wrong reasons), moved into gigantic mansions, and threw the types of obnoxious parties high school kids worshipped and neighbors dreaded. Now, years after they both moved into their own mansions in the wealthiest part of the city, the brothers have independently decided to leave the place they’ve called home. “I think I got the bug that’s bit everyone leaving LA,” Logan Paul said on his podcast, Impaulsive , in February. “It’s the closing of one chapter and the beginning of a new one. There’s a lot of senior vibes around the house lately.” They’re not the only ones, either. YouTube is full of videos posted over the last several months of creators … [Read more...] about Los Angeles’ creator community is starting to move out
