Cafe brews up career for hearing-impaired barista

A Ken (alias), who is hearing-impaired, had always hoped to become a barista. Although he won coffee brewing competitions, some coffee shops still rejected him because he cannot communicate with clients like normal people. With the help of the Shanghai Disabled Persons' Federation, three months ago, he became an employee of the popular Shanghai cafe Hinichijou, also known as the Bear Paw Cafe. Due to his excellent performance, he was promoted to become a shop manager. Hinichijou launched its first store on Yongkang Road on Dec 3. The cafe has gone viral among netizens because of its quirky concept which involves an employee wearing a furry bear claw to serve customers through a hole in the wall. "I'm proud that I have gotten this job, which helps me better integrate into society. Thank you so much for your support, and I hope to make better coffee in the future." … [Read more...] about Cafe brews up career for hearing-impaired barista

Anthony Taberna reveals trusted employee stole from his cafe

Anthony Taberna (Image: Instagram/@iamtunying28) Radio broadcaster Anthony Taberna revealed that one of his trusted employees stole a large amount of cash from his coffee shop. Taberna shared the incident while guesting on the TV talk show “Magandang Buhay” last Tuesday, Dec. 15, with his wife, Rossel. The program posted a snippet of the episode on its YouTube page on the same day. They discovered what their worker had done to their store called Ka Tunying’s Cafe two or three weeks ago. Taberna stressed that the incident was a huge blow to their family and their finances as the treatment for their daughter Zoey, who suffers from leukemia, is not cheap. “Kumbaga kumita ka ng konti sa pagtitinda ng tinapay, iniipon mo ‘yon tapos kukuhain lang ng ibang tao,” he noted. (It’s like you earned a little from selling bread, you saved it then someone just takes it.) While he did not mention the employee’s name or the amount that was stolen, Taberna emphasized that it was a … [Read more...] about Anthony Taberna reveals trusted employee stole from his cafe

From Escobar Hitman to YouTube Star: Meet Jhon Jairo ‘Popeye’ Velasquez

On a sunny Saturday in February, two policemen on a motorcycle stop Jhon Jairo “Popeye” Velásquez as he walks down the driveway of a dilapidated mansion near Medellin, Colombia. The estate belonged to a former associate of late drug kingpin Pablo Escobar, who was killed in 1993, reportedly by Colombian police aided by U.S. Special Forces .. Velásquez, who worked for Escobar, is giving a tour of his old mob hangouts and discussing his future in film and politics. The beat cops aren’t here to arrest him. “We’re intrigued by him,” says the more boyish of the patrolmen, who was born the year Escobar was killed. “It’s really cool to hear the story.” If the officer had been born 20 years earlier, he might have been one of over 500 policemen Velásquez and other assassins from Escobar’s Medellín Cartel murdered in a bloody war against the Colombian government. Instead, he gives Velásquez his patrol number in case of emergency and the policemen ride away. 2021 UTME: Email address no longer required at point of registration – registrar

Kindly Share This Story: Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, Registrar, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) says candidates will no longer provide email addresses at the point of registration for Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). Oloyede, who disclosed this while addressing newsmen at the board’s headquarters on Wednesday in Bwari, Abuja, said the change, would take effect from Thursday. He said the board made the adjustment to protect candidates from various forms of manipulation and distortion of their personal details by some fraudulent cyber cafe operators. “They gain access to profiles of these candidates under the pretense of creating an email address for them. “ Then they change and block the candidates from receiving messages from the board. Two years later, 2013 Colorado floods remain a “nightmare” for some

A large rectangle of dirt is all that is left of Doug Miller’s life from the days before the rains fell two years ago. “That will be home one day again,” the 50-year-old custom home builder said, standing in front of the empty footprint that served as the foundation for his home of nine years. “That’s never swayed.” But exactly when his property, located on a quiet block of Park Street near the confluence of the north and south forks of the St. Vrain River in Lyons, will be restored to a livable state is vexingly elusive. “Sometimes I’m hopeful that things are going to start moving,” Miller said last week, as his dog Juneau wandered among piles of soggy looking asphalt that used to be the road. “And other times I get really frustrated.” RELATED: Special Project: Rebuilding Jamestown 2014, one year later As Colorado hits the two-year mark since a historic deluge swelled rivers and creeks to overflowing , killing 10 and causing nearly $4 billion in damage across 24 … [Read more...] about Two years later, 2013 Colorado floods remain a “nightmare” for some
