MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — The eyes of the nation, if not the world, will be focused on Minneapolis on Monday as jury selection is scheduled to begin in the trial of Derek Chauvin, the former police officer accused of killing George Floyd. Chauvin is charged with second-degree murder and manslaughter in Floyd’s death last May. Given the high-profile nature of the case, jury selection is expected to last three weeks, with prosecutors and Chauvin’s defense attorneys working to find 12 jurors and four alternates who are informed about the case but not biased to one particular side. The process is slated to being Monday morning and will be streamed on CBSN Minnesota. Due to the immense pre-trial publicity, defense attorneys had asked that the case be moved out of the Twin Cities metro area. Tim Pawlenty appointed Cahill to the bench in 2007. Voters then elected him twice more. Former law partner Mike Colich called Cahill’s background diverse. They met while Cahill was a law clerk in the mid-80s. “He’s certainly qualified to be a judge based on all the experience he has,” Colich said. MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — The Minnesota Court of Appeals decided on Friday that the trial judge in the Derek Chauvin case erred in not reinstating the third-degree murder charge against the former Minneapolis police officer accused of killing George Floyd. This sets the stage for Chauvin to face an additional murder charge in his trial, which is slated to start next week with jury selection. It’s yet unknown if Hennepin County District Court Judge Peter Cahill will immediately move to reinstate the third-degree murder charge per the appellate court’s ruling or wait to hear additional arguments from Chauvin’s defense team. Sooraj Pancholi reveals that it was tedious but thrilling to learn professional dancing Actor Sooraj Pancholi will soon be seen in the dance film , Time To Dance, opposite Katrina Kaif ’s sister, Isabelle . Sooraj says he underwent extensive training twice a day for months to imbibe a few new dance forms for his role. “Time To Dance is going to be my first dance film, which is totally different from my past action movies. We trained for four months twice a day with a professional Indian-Latin dancer, followed by one month of training in the UK with a few teachers, all of who are world champion Latin dancers,” he says.
