Queen gifted pair of new ‘adorable’ corgi puppies years after last one died

The Queen has welcomed two new puppies to her household. For the first time in two years Her Majesty will have a couple of corgis at Windsor Castle. It is not known what the name, ages or sex of the pets are, but they seem to have come at a good time, with the monarch needing some company while Prince Philip is in hospital. “The Queen is delighted," a source told The Sun. "They have only been there a couple of weeks but are said to be adorable and made the castle their home. “Both are said to be bringing in a lot of noise and energy into the castle while Philip is in hospital.” It is thought that the dogs were a gift, filling a dog shaped whole in Elizabeth II's life. On her 18th birthday in 1944 she received a corgi called Susan who subsequently provided more than 30 descendants. The last of them, Whisper, died in 2018, leaving the Queen corgi-less for the first time in 74 years. Before her latest pair of pups, Her Majesty's only remaining dog was Candy the dorgi, … [Read more...] about Queen gifted pair of new ‘adorable’ corgi puppies years after last one died

Rep Eric Swalwell Sues Trump Over Riot, I Thought I Was Going to Die

Getty Rep. Eric Swalwell squarely blames Donald Trump and the former president's cohorts for the violent mob that stormed the Capitol, saying he texted his wife what he believed might be his final words before he was killed. Swalwell is suing Trump, along with Donald Trump Jr. , Rudy Giuliani and Rep. Mo Brooks for encouraging the crowd to take care of business at the same time the Congress was certifying the Presidential election. Getty Swalwell says as he watched in horror as the rioters breached the Capitol, he texted his wife, "I love you very much. And our babies." He says he listened to the House Chaplain pray for the members inside the House Chamber. Getty Swalwell's lawsuit is the real deal because he has legal standing to sue for his personal emotional distress, although the lawsuit also suggests he has standing as a member of Congress to sue for the disruption of the electoral process. Skeletons of WWII-era nuns murdered by Soviets unearthed in Poland

Archaeologists recently unearthed the skeletons of three Catholic nuns who were murdered by Soviet soldiers at the end of World War II . Their discovery concludes a months-long search for the bones of seven nuns who were killed during the former Soviet Union's brutal occupation of the war-torn country. Russia's Red Army invaded Poland in 1944, as Nazi Germany withdrew their soldiers. During that time, Soviet forces sought to seize control by suppressing Polish militia and religious figures, imprisoning, deporting and killing Polish soldiers, clergy and civilians. Records from 1945 documented Soviet soldiers slaughtering seven nuns in the order of St. Catherine of Alexandria, representatives of the Polish Institute of National Remembrance (IPN) told Live Science in an email. To find out where these murdered nuns were buried, archaeologists first excavated a site in Gdańsk in July 2020, where they found the remains of Sister Charytyna (Jadwiga Fahl), according to a statement … [Read more...] about Skeletons of WWII-era nuns murdered by Soviets unearthed in Poland

Funeral director worries for bereaved

Of all the restrictions placed on Manitobans during the pandemic, those that restrict funerals and those grieving the loss of a loved one may be the most damaging of them all. “The health of people is my concern, the wellness of people, their mental wellness, which plays out physically, emotionally, spiritually. Those restrictions that are in place right now, I’m finding are detrimental to people’s mental health,” said David Klassen, a funeral director with Braendle-Bruce Funeral Service in Russell. Klassen noted an Alberta funeral that took place last year, where many people contracted COVID-19. But, he said, the funeral was not governed by a funeral director. “The families did it on their own. There are some, there are very few, but there are some communities where funeral directors aren’t actually present at the ceremony and the burial,” he said. “Kevin (Sweryd) from MFSA (Manitoba Funeral Service Association) will quickly tell you that best practices as far as funeral … [Read more...] about Funeral director worries for bereaved
