Election fever has hit Benin. In the economic capital, Cotonou, more and more posters advertising the April 11 presidential election appear daily. One image, though, dominates: that of the current president, Patrice Talon. Against a blue background, he and running mate Mariam Chabi Talata are visible to every one of Cotonou's 800,000 residents. Like the United States, the West African country nominates pairs to run for the presidency, and if Talon is reelected, Chabi Talata will be vice president. "We have come a long way, we will go far" is the pitch by Talon and his running mate For Flora Agoudavi, this is a foregone conclusion. She and hundreds of other supporters have come to a campaign rally in front of the congress buildings on the coastal road Boulevarde de la Marina. They wave flags bearing their candidate's face, and wait patiently for his address. "When the president kicks off his campaign, I have to be there," she said. For Talon's next term, Agoudavi hopes … [Read more...] about Benin’s democracy hangs in the balance on election weekend

How to use iPhone Portrait Mode
Contents > Which iPhones have Portrait Mode? > How to take Portrait Mode photos > Portrait Mode tips > Tips from the professionals > How to use Portrait Lighting > How to turn off Portrait Mode Portrait Mode is an arty photo format that first arrived with the iPhone 7 Plus. It uses the twin-lens camera that's present on the back of some iPhones to create an artistic depth effect, whereby the subject is in focus and the background is blurred. If you use Portrait Mode in conjunction with the new Portrait Lighting effects that arrived in iOS 11 you can get photos that are "Studio quality" (Apple's right to say that has been confirmed in courts of law no less!) While we'd be the first to admit that our Portrait Mode photos aren't as stunning as the ones a professional photographer might take, the effect certainly can help you take some stunning photos of friends and family. Before we start explaining how to use Portrait Mode … [Read more...] about How to use iPhone Portrait Mode
Lorenzo: Rossi “disappointed” me, his fans in Doha MotoGP
Rossi registered his worst qualifying result in his entire 25-year grand prix career in last weekend’s Doha round in Qatar, having limped to 21st aboard his Petronas SRT Yamaha. He failed to salvage much in the race after qualifying second-to-last, the 42-year-old coming away from the second round of the season without points in 16th having also faded from fourth to 12th in the Qatar GP the week before. Following his worst start to a premier class season since his maiden campaign in 2000, Rossi admitted he was unsure if his form would rebound when MotoGP returns to Europe starting with next week’s Portuguese GP. Reviewing the Doha race in his new ’99 Seconds’ YouTube series, Lorenzo – who spent seven years as Rossi’s teammate in MotoGP – was scathing in his assessment of Rossi’s performance, but expects him to be stronger come the fourth round at Jerez. "Rossi has disappointed me, as I suppose he has disappointed his fans because a lot is always expected from … [Read more...] about Lorenzo: Rossi “disappointed” me, his fans in Doha MotoGP
Actual nightmare: Ant moves into monitor screen, refuses to leave
Today's horror tech story comes from Reddit user UpvotesKitties entitled, 'An ant is stuck inside my monitor and I CAN'T GET RID OF IT.' As you can see a pesky little critter has decided to ruin this person's day by not just crawling inside their monitor, but also by darting across their screen like it's taunting them. As someone who is as terrified of bugs as much as this lady is afraid of pennies , having a bug crawl across my screen that I can't get rid of would most likely end in me throwing said monitor into a dumpster and lighting it on fire. An ant is stuck inside my monitor and I CAN'T GET RID OF IT from r/mildlyinfuriating The issue with bugs getting into your stuff, aside from the obvious cringe factor, is that they could actually cause serious damage to your gear. Bugs have been making their way into PC hardware since the dawn of time. The term 'computer bug' comes from when an actual bug flew into a computer back in the 1940s and we still haven't found a … [Read more...] about Actual nightmare: Ant moves into monitor screen, refuses to leave
Is Grinning Through the Apocalypse
Partway through Outriders , the player character—the “Outrider”—is tasked with finding a lieutenant who’s gone missing in one of the sprawling battlefields that cover the fictional planet of Enoch. The lieutenant is discovered next to a wounded enemy soldier who pleads for his life before being summarily executed by a grenade. The Outrider, no stranger to violence themself, watches with dismay as the enemy explodes into a red mess of blown-up guts and brains. “War is war,” the lieutenant says. “What? You think we just hug and—” He’s interrupted by the crack of a gunshot that sends him wheeling in place before falling dead to the ground. The Outrider sighs, picks a bit of human matter off their face, and mutters, “Why do I even bother?” before walking away, their mission complete. Gunfire continues to rattle in the distance during the fade to black. Outriders , as this one sequence makes clear, has a singular tone. It bounces wildly between grim violence and slapstick, … [Read more...] about Is Grinning Through the Apocalypse
Singing Cowboy offered free dental work after losing teeth in ‘pebble-skipping’ incident
A dentist and an oral surgeon have offered to fix the smile of Auckland’s famous Singing Cowboy for free, after two of his teeth were knocked out when a college student threw a stone in his direction. Jock Hume , an entertainer better known to many as the Singing Cowboy, was having a swim at wildlife sanctuary Tiritiri Matangi Island off the Whangaparāoa Peninsula in north Auckland when the incident happened on March 24. Prior to getting in the water, the 73-year-old said he spoke to a group of Ōrewa College students, who were throwing stones and small rocks into the water, asking if they could refrain from doing so as not to hit him. However, the students, who Hume described as intermediate or senior-aged, continued and, just as he was getting ready to exit the water, a stone hit him in the mouth, he said.
