Lordstown Motors has revealed the racing version of its Endurance that that will attempt to become the first electric vehicle to finish the San Felipe 250 off-road race in Baja, Mexico, on April 17. Hyundai Joins Samsung SDI in Developing Electric Car Batteries

April 14, 2021 11:27 Hyundai and Samsung SDI have agreed to develop cutting-edge cylindrical batteries for the automaker's hybrid cars. The decision follows a rare meeting last year between Samsung chief Lee Jae-yong and Hyundai chief Chung Eui-sun. At present, Hyundai uses only batteries made by LG Energy Solution, but it hopes to diversify suppliers and start using batteries from Samsung SDI and SK Innovation from 2024. It also wants to develop solid-state batteries with Samsung that charge faster than lithium-ion batteries and are also safer and more compact. One automotive industry insider said, "Samsung has solid-state battery patents and aims to roll out them by 2027, faster than its domestic rivals. That's why Hyundai sees Samsung as an important partner." Ford to offer hands-free driving in some car, truck models

Ford Motor Co said on Wednesday it will start putting its hands-free highway driving technology in some of its pickup truck and Mustang models later this year. The automaker said its BlueCruise technology will be offered on its 2021 model year F-150 pickup trucks and the Mustang Mach-E electric crossovers equipped with its Co-Pilot360 driver assistance package. Rivals General Motors Co and Tesla Inc also offer similar driving assistance technologies called the 'Super Cruise' and 'Autopilot', respectively. Nikola, Iveco and OGE sign preliminary hydrogen distribution agreement

Iveco , electric and hydrogen vehicle maker Nikola and German gas network operator OGE said on Wednesday they entered a preliminary agreement to support hydrogen distribution for fuel-cell electric vehicle ( FCEV ) refuelling. The three companies will cooperate to set out a business structure for transporting hydrogen via pipeline network from production sources to hydrogen fuelling stations in support of FCEVs, they said in a statement. No financial details were provided. Nikola will lead the installation of hydrogen fuelling locations for FCEVs from all producers at key locations, with the support of OGE's hydrogen delivery systems, it said. OGE owns and operates 12,000 kilometres of natural gas pipeline infrastructure network in Germany. Nikola and Iveco, a unit of Italian American vehicle maker CNH Industrial , are in a joint venture to build battery-electric and hydrogen heavy trucks. While auto sales in China suffered a significant drop of 42.4 percent in the first quarter of 2020, they have steadily rebounded and, in 2020, exceeded 25 million units, accounting for 33 percent of the world's auto sales. The Chinese government has made development of new energy vehicles a priority for the country. In September, President Xi Jinping announced the plan to have the country's CO2 emissions peak before 2030, and to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060. Two months later, the State Council, China's Cabinet, also announced a 15-year (2021-35) industry development plan, setting clear targets for penetration of new energy vehicles: to achieve 20 percent by 2025, 40 percent by 2030, and more than 50 percent by 2035.Major government incentives include tax exemptions and support for the construction of electric vehicle charging stations.
