Google is planning to pump a lot of money into marketing Motorola's new flagship phone to ensure its success. According to sources cited by The Wall Street Journal , Google may let Motorola spend as much as $500 million to market the Moto X smartphone in the United States and abroad to compete with other smartphones on the market. The smartphone is expected to debut on the four major carriers this fall, according to the report. Motorola did not immediately respond to our request for comment. It looks like Google is playing up its "made in America" credentials just as Apple appears to be doubling down on a similar strategy. Google's Motorola unit is planning to break ads for its Moto X phone on July 3 in The New York Times , USA Today and The Wall Street Journal , according to Advertising Age . The ad, from Droga5 , bills X as the "first smartphone designed, engineered and assembled in the U.S." Tagline: "Designed by you. Assembled in the USA." Walking their dog after dinner has always been a favorite daily activity of Tho Pham and his wife, a Vietnamese couple who live with their 39-year-old son in Garden Grove City, California. But not in the last few months as the wave of anti-Asian violence and harassment has terrified him. "I do not dare go out without my children because I am afraid someone will knock me to the ground or stab me to death just because I am Asian," he laments, adding that the hate crimes have disrupted his daily life.
