Sheila Jackson Lee: Republicans Engaged in ‘War on Black People’ Voting

Representative Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) said Tuesday on CNN’s “Tonight” that the Republican Party was engaged in “a war on black people as it relates to voting.” Anchor Don Lemon said, “The Supreme Court is hearing arguments today that could weaken voting rights in Arizona. Major push nationwide to make it harder for people to vote. What does this mean particularly for black voters?” Jackson Lee said, “Well, I think tragically we have not had this historic opposition to our rights since slavery, during the Jim Crow days and of course the harshness of the 1960s. The tragedy of this is an entire party, the Republican Party, is committed to voter suppression, committed to avoiding the opportunity of votes. Donald Trump laid out he only wants one day for votes. They don’t want opportunities for absentee ballot, extended voting, same-day registration, all things that empower young people and people of color, African-Americans.” She continued, “This is a war on black people as it … [Read more...] about Sheila Jackson Lee: Republicans Engaged in ‘War on Black People’ Voting

Joseph Conceicao served the nation ‘tirelessly’: PM Lee pays tribute to late diplomat

SINGAPORE: Mr Joseph Conceicao, a pioneer diplomat and former Member of Parliament for Katong, had served Singapore "with distinction", said Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in a condolence letter to Mr Conceicao's wife Anita on Friday (Aug 16). Mr Conceicao, who was a member of the People's Action Party Old Guard and served as Katong MP for 16 years, died of a heart attack at the age of 95 on Tuesday night. “Joe was an eminent member of our Pioneer Generation. He served Singapore with distinction as a parliamentarian, diplomat and educator,” Mr Lee wrote, recalling how founding Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew had praised Mr Conceicao in Parliament in 1977 for having "done his homework". In the letter, Mr Lee described Mr Conceicao as having been "completely dedicated to his duties", citing how Mr Conceicao learnt Mandarin to connect better with his constituents and how he turned up at the Nomination Centre to file his papers in the 1980 General Election despite having had a heart … [Read more...] about Joseph Conceicao served the nation ‘tirelessly’: PM Lee pays tribute to late diplomat

"Those are monthly averages. Maximum temperatures during the day will be much higher. Today we are hitting daytime highs of 32 degrees Celsius and even 34 degrees Celsius, so by 2100 Singapore could see 37 degrees Celsius days!" said Mr Lee in a Facebook post. Bruce Lee’s daughter disappointed over his portrayal in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood

Bruce Lee’s daughter, Shannon Lee, has expressed her disappointment over filmmaker Quentin Tarantino’s portrayal of her father in his latest movie, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. In an interview with The Wrap, she said that the late actor and martial artist “comes across as an arrogant a--hole who was full of hot air, and not someone who had to fight triple as hard as any of those people did to accomplish what was naturally given to so many others.” In one particular scene in the movie (spoiler alert), Brad Pitt’s character, Cliff Booth, trades insults with Bruce Lee (played by Mike Moh) and the two agree to a best two-out-of-three-rounds fight on the set of The Green Hornet series. Lee wins the first round but loses in the next when Booth slams him into a car. The fight was stopped before the third round could begin. The younger Lee said this was not something her father would have done as he would try to avoid fights. "Here, he's the one with all the puffery and he's the … [Read more...] about Bruce Lee’s daughter disappointed over his portrayal in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood
