Referring to a claim by Rosmah's daughter, Ms Nooryana Najwa Najib, that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) had gone too far in arresting her mother , Dr Mahathir said the action was not taken out of revenge. "If it's against the law, the legal process will be carried out; that is our promise and there is no idea of revenge and anything like that," the prime minister told reporters on the sidelines of the sixth ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Disaster Management. "The law says (that) if you steal money, you will be charged in court. Whether the court agrees or not, that is a different matter." Putin defends ‘lawful’ seizure of Ukrainian ships

MOSCOW: President Vladimir Putin insisted on Wednesday (Nov 28) that Russian forces were in the right to seize three Ukrainian ships last weekend, but President Donald Trump expressed "deep concern" at Moscow's actions against a US ally. In his first extensive remarks since the confrontation at sea on Sunday, Putin said it had been orchestrated by Kiev as a "provocation". He said the Ukrainian ships had entered Russian territorial waters and refused to respond to requests to stop from Russian patrol boats. "What were they (Russian forces) supposed to do?" Putin said when asked about the incident at an international investment forum in Moscow. "They were fulfilling their military duty. They were fulfilling their lawful functions in protecting Russia's borders. They would do the same in your country." Moscow and Kiev have traded angry accusations since Russian navy vessels fired on, boarded and captured the three Ukrainian ships off the coast of Crimea. After warning of … [Read more...] about Putin defends ‘lawful’ seizure of Ukrainian ships

Security law guards HK’s prosperity

The social chaos, including rioting, in Hong Kong that has led to an economic crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic pose the greatest challenge to Hong Kong since its return to China in 1997. The mayhem caused by the violent protesters prompted the National People's Congress pass the national security law in June last year to stem the growing risk of separatism and restore order in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, so the city's residents could resume normal economic and other activities. Thanks to the implementation of the national security law, Hong Kong is gradually returning to the normal track, by overcoming a host of the difficulties. As part of this measure, the SAR judicial authorities charged 47 politicians and activists with subversion on Sunday. But instead of appreciating the hard work of the Hong Kong law enforcers to restore order in the city, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken called for the immediate release of the separatists. "We condemn the detention of … [Read more...] about Security law guards HK’s prosperity
