Photograph: Michael Regan/Getty Images Runaway Premier League leaders Manchester City slumped to a shock 2-1 home defeat against 10-man Leeds United on Saturday, with two-goal Stuart Dallas scoring the winner in stoppage time. Pep Guardiola fielded a much-changed City side, which struggled to get going in the first half, Leeds taking a surprise lead in the 42nd minute when full-back Dallas drove the ball home off the post with the visitors' first shot. Leeds's joy was short-lived, however, as a VAR intervention saw their captain Liam Cooper sent off just before the break for a dangerous looking challenge on Gabriel Jesus. The depleted visitors then defended en masse, with City struggling to break through, but Ferran Torres broke … [Read more...] about PIX: 10-man Leeds shock Manchester City; Liverpool win

Germany: Politicians blamed as summer vacation bookings plunge

The German tourism industry is showing few signs of recovery with the travel forecast for the upcoming summer looking gloomy, sector chiefs said on Sunday. Bookings for 2021 are already down on last year's poor figures, Michael Frenzel, the president of the Federal Association of the German Tourism Industry (BTW) , told Welt am Sonntag . "For the summer season," Frenzel began, "bookings are 76% below the figures for the same period last year in terms of turnover." Indeed, in spring, cancellations had even begun to exceed bookings, according to the BTW. There may be a glimpse of light at the end of the tunnel, though, with shoots of optimism that the third quarter may provide some late summer sun, both for travelers and the industry itself. "The majority of people are betting on late travel, in the fall," the tourism chief continued. "You can see that from the fact that the declines in bookings for this period are lower than in the summer months before." … [Read more...] about Germany: Politicians blamed as summer vacation bookings plunge

Age of Empires developers ‘have not forgotten about Age of Mythology’

Ahead of Saturday's Age of Empires fan event, Microsoft arranged a roundtable interview with developers from Xbox Game Studios and the current developers of the Age of Empires series at Relic Entertainment. While the interview was mostly focused on the upcoming Age of Empires 4 , another game came up—2002's Age of Mythology, a spin-off that traded AoE's more grounded history for Greek, Norse, and Egyptian mythology. Someone asked if Mythology would ever get the Definitive Edition treatment given to all three Age of Empires games. "I've said this before, and I'll say it again: I have not forgotten about Age of Mythology," said franchise creative director Adam Isgreen. "It comes up all the time." Microsoft did re-release Age of Mythology on Steam back in 2014 , and actually followed it up with an expansion, Tale of the Dragon, in 2016. That's better treatment than many '90s and 2000s strategy games have gotten, but in the last five years it hasn't gotten any of the love … [Read more...] about Age of Empires developers ‘have not forgotten about Age of Mythology’

Cindy Gallop: ‘I cannot wait to die alone’

Cindy Gallop is sitting on a sofa in her Manhattan apartment when she takes this video call. On a recent Wednesday afternoon she is looking happy and relaxed, angelically backlit from light streaming in from tall windows, over 30 storeys up, with views over and through the New York skyline. The former advertising executive, now consultant and entrepreneur, has spent a year in “full lockdown” here in “The Sky Apartment” as she calls it – following state law and her own “super cautious” approach. She is 61, and happy to say it – ageism being one of the many taboos she’s busy slaying – and this puts her in the higher risk group for Covid. So she’s been playing it safe, not going to restaurants for example, even with outside dining, despite being a total foodie and not cooking herself.
