PM serious about vaccine shortage in Mumbai: Mayor

A day after Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope said the state is facing a COVID-19 vaccine crunch and demanded 40 lakh doses every week from the Centre, Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar on Friday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is serious and proactive about the state's issues and accuses people under PM of not taking this issue with same seriousness. Ishrat Jahan: a family’s personal trauma

For Ishrat Jahan’s mother and younger sister, the incessant interviews are an ordeal they would rather not go through because of the constant rewinding to the nightmare of June 15, 2004 — when Ishrat was reported killed in a police encounter outside Ahmedabad along with three alleged Lashkar-e-Taiba operatives, among them Javed Shaikh alias Pranesh Kumar Pillai, claimed by the police to be her close friend. The Mumbra-based Ms. Kausar and Ms. Musarrat are in Delhi in connection with the Special Leave Petition the former has filed in the Supreme Court seeking vacation of the stay granted by the Gujarat High Court on the S. P. Tamang report. Questions remain The Ahmedabad Metropolitan Magistrate’s September 7 ruling that the police had … [Read more...] about Ishrat Jahan: a family’s personal trauma

‘Mumbai police has many honest officers’

'It is just that they are not in the limelight in a city like Mumbai.' Photograph: Kind courtesy Pravin Talan/Mumbai Police Calendar 2020 At a time when the Mumbai police need an image makeover owing to the Sachin Waze controversy, the Maharashtra government has once again sidelined 1986 batch Indian Police Service officer Sanjay Pandey . Pandey, the senior-most IPS officer in Maharashtra, has been shifted to head the Maharashtra State Security Corporation. He was DG, Home Guards, earlier. Pandey was transferred after Param Bir Singh was removed as Mumbai's police commissioner. Upset with 'side-postings', Pandey, who has busted many scams in his career and is considered to be upright, wrote to the Maharashtra chief minister and home minister. 'Sir, please convey my heartfelt gratitude to CM for his thoughtfulness in demolishing careers,' one of his messages read. He was also reportedly upset with the government for not formally informing him about the new posting … [Read more...] about ‘Mumbai police has many honest officers’
