Colorado’s congressional delegation in agreement on ending the war in Afghanistan
Coloradans in Congress from both political parties applauded President Joe Biden ’s plan to withdraw all American troops from Afghanistan by mid-September and end America’s longest war. “We cannot continue to spend billions of dollars there and send our men and women there in perpetuity,” said Rep. Jason Crow , an Aurora Democrat who served in Afghanistan as an Army Ranger in 2004 and 2005. About 2,300 Americans have died in the war, according to Defense Department estimates , including 38 Coloradans. The first was Sgt. Daniel Romero , a 30-year-old from Lafayette, in a rocket explosion near Kandahar in 2002. The most recent was Sgt. Will Lindsay , a 33-year-old from Cortez, during a firefight in Kunduz Province in 2019. Crow said he is concerned that the Biden administration’s plans to withdraw the remaining 2,500 troops by Sept. 11 – as first reported by The Associated Press – is not contingent on the Taliban complying with a power-sharing agreement with the … [Read more...] about Colorado’s congressional delegation in agreement on ending the war in Afghanistan

Jurassic Coast has its biggest rockfall in 60 years after huge 4,000 tonne chunk drops from 430ft cliff
THE Jurassic Coast saw its biggest rockfall in 60 years as 4,000 tonnes tumbled from a 430ft cliff. The rubble has completely blocked off a beach along a stretch of Britain's historic Jurassic Coast. A huge chunk from a 430ft sandstone cliff gave way causing boulders the size of cars to plummet near Seatown in Dorset. Rangers have been assessing the damage throughout the day and Dorset Council is warning people to stay away. The 'gigantic' landslip affecting almost 1,000ft of cliffside took place overnight, with whole trees seen floating out to sea. It is believed to have been caused by natural erosion, not helped by recent mixed weather. Jake Lanning, from West Bay Coastguard, said: "We have been aware of this since this morning and it is a very very substantial fall. "The county council are aware of it and I know their rangers have been out assessing the damage. "I believe it was caused by substantial cracks around the cliff, which have occurred as part of … [Read more...] about Jurassic Coast has its biggest rockfall in 60 years after huge 4,000 tonne chunk drops from 430ft cliff
UEFA bans Slavia Prague’s Ondřej Kúdela for 10 games for racist behavior
(CNN) Slavia Prague defender Ondřej Kúdela has been banned for 10 matches by UEFA after the governing body's investigation into allegations of the player's "racist behavior" towards Rangers' midfielder Glen Kamara during the sides' UEFA Europa League meeting at Ibrox stadium last month . The incident occurred late in the match when Kúdela was seen saying something into Kamara's ear with his hand covering his mouth. After the game, Rangers manager Steven Gerrard spoke to the media where he confirmed that Kamara told him that he was racially abused by Kúdela. Kamara subsequently gave an interview to UK broadcaster ITV News earlier this month in which he claimed Kúdela said to him: "You're a monkey, you're a f**king monkey and you know you are." Kúdela denies the claims. In a statement on Wednesday, Slavia Prague's President Jaroslav Tvrdík said the club respected UEFA's decision. Injured Choo Shin-soo, Choi Ji-man Face Uncertain Futures in MLB
September 18, 2020 10:05 Choo Shin-soo of the Texas Rangers and Choi Ji-man of the Tampa Bay Rays are both sidelined due to injuries, leaving their seasons under a cloud. Choo sprained his right wrist sliding into home plate in the fourth inning of an away game against the Seattle Mariners on Sept. 7 and was placed on the 10-day disabled list. The MLB season has been reduced from the regular 162 games to 60 due to the coronavirus epidemic. The Rangers, currently in last place in the American League, are unlikely to advance to the postseason. Rangers general manager Jon Daniels' comments to MLB.com that the club will give more chances to young players next season have prompted speculation by local media that the Rangers may not renew Choo's contract, which is now in its final year. He signed a seven-year, US$130-million contract with the club ahead of the 2014 season, becoming the first Asian player in MLB history to sign a deal worth over $100 million.
