A new gold biryani called ‘Royal Gold Biryani’ has been made at a diner in Dubai and it costs a whopping costs 1,000 dirhams or approximately ₹19K for a plate of biryani, reportedly making it the world’s most expensive. The lavishly prepared rice-saffron-meat and chicken layered dish is served with three side dishes including Nihari Salan, Jodhpuri Salan, Badami sauce topped with almond and pomegranate raita. Then comes the pièce de resistance – a generous sprinkling of 23-carat edible gold leaves used as garnish. It joins several other pricy dishes across the globe. French sailor Sebastien Destremau has no regrets pulling out of a round-the-world solo race he told more than 70 Timaru Yacht and Powerboat Club members. A major steering system problem on his boat Merci forced him give up the race against 32 other competitiors, after 69 days, when he was south of New Zealand. The race, which started in November, is run without any assistance for the entrants. While the rudder beam was being fixed in Lyttelton, Destremau took up the invitation to speak at the Timaru club on Wednesday.
