VN-Index inches up in fourth gaining session

The VN30 basket, comprising the 30 largest capped stocks on the HoSE, saw 12 tickers gain, led by TPB of private TPBank, up 6.3 percent to a new all-time high of VND29,750. The ticker has surged 8.8 percent in the last three sessions. HDB of HDBank followed with a 3.5 percent gain. Wall Street retreats after solid start to March

REUTERS: Wall Street's main indexes dropped on Tuesday after a strong start to March as bond yields pulled back from a one-year high, while investors also looked to cues on progress in the next round of fiscal stimulus. The S&P 500 on Monday logged its best day since June as markets cheered approval of a third COVID-19 vaccine in the United States and the U.S. House of Representatives' green light for a US$1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package. The U.S. Senate will start debating President Joe Biden's relief bill this week when Democrats aim to pass the legislation through a maneuver known as "reconciliation," which would allow the bill to pass with a simple majority. "The market works like a pendulum and has a tendency to go down after seeing gains like in the previous session," said Randy Frederick, vice president at Charles Schwab in Austin. "But concerns over lofty valuations and inflation persist even as the overall trend seems to be positive." The technology … [Read more...] about Wall Street retreats after solid start to March

Microsoft’s Dream of Decentralized IDs Enters the Real World

For years, tech companies have touted blockchain technology as a means to develop identity systems that are secure and decentralized . The goal is to build a platform that could store information about official data without holding the actual documents or details themselves. Instead of just storing a scan of your birth certificate, for example, a decentralized ID platform might store a validated token that confirms the information in it. Then when you get carded at a bar or need proof of citizenship, you could share those pre-verified credentials instead of the actual document or data. Microsoft has been one of the leaders of this pack —and is now detailing tangible progress toward its vision of a decentralized digital ID. At its Ignite conference today, Microsoft announced that it will launch a public preview of its “Azure Active Directory verifiable credentials” this spring. Think of the platform as a digital wallet like Apple Pay or Google Pay, but for identifiers rather … [Read more...] about Microsoft’s Dream of Decentralized IDs Enters the Real World

Wall Street dips after solid start to March

REUTERS: Wall Street's major averages dipped on Tuesday after a strong start to March as investors closely monitored the bond market as well as progress on the next round of fiscal stimulus. The technology sector weighed the most on the benchmark S&P 500. Healthcare, materials and energy stocks extended gains from the previous session. "Markets are reacting to the huge positive spike in the previous session, while investors are wondering if good news is bad news over concerns of higher inflation due to huge … [Read more...] about Wall Street dips after solid start to March

US stocks gain ground in volatile session, Dow ends +1.0%

NEW YORK: Wall Street stocks finished higher on Thursday (Mar 19) following a volatile session as investors weighed massive government stimulus measures being proposed against some of the first data showing the sharp US economic slowdown underway. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.95 per cent to finish the session at 20,087.18, after swinging more than 1,200 points during the day. The broad-based S&P 500 climbed 11.29 points (0.47 per cent to close at 2,409.39, while the tech-rich Nasdaq Composite Index jumped 160.73 points (2.30 per cent) to end at 7,150.58, as large technology companies led the market. Economists are slashing their outlooks as more sectors of the US radically curtail activities, shutting down stores, cutting transportation routes and suspending or slowing manufacturing. Many analysts expect markets to remain highly volatile and under pressure until health authorities get a better grasp of the scale of the outbreak in the United States and how … [Read more...] about US stocks gain ground in volatile session, Dow ends +1.0%
