India’s athletics coach found dead in hostel room

The dead body of the 72-year-old Snesarev, who returned to India after a gap of two years to be at the helm till the end of September, has been sent to a government hospital for post mortem. "When the door was broken, he was found lying on his bed. The Sports Authority of India doctor at the NIS declared him dead and the ED (team) of the SAI has referred the body to the government hospital for post mortem." "We don't know the cause of death. We will know it later after post mortem." Snesarev was at the NIS running track in the morning with his wards but did not turn up for the meet which started at 2pm. No overseas spectators for Tokyo Olympics?

Photograph: Carl Court/Getty Images Japan's government will decide whether to let overseas spectators attend the Summer Olympics in Tokyo by the end of March, Olympics Minister Tamayo Marukawa said on Wednesday. Her comments were echoed by the head of the organising committee for the Games, Seiko Hashimoto, who said she would like to reach the decision by March 25. Polls show most Japanese oppose holding the Games during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Mainichi newspaper earlier reported that the government was planning to ban overseas spectators due to worries they would spread the coronavirus, citing multiple unnamed sources. The Gaurs then took the lead again through Saviour Gama (59') but Mourtada Fall (62') soon netted a vital equaliser to help the Islanders escape with a vital point. Indian women’s trap team settles for silver in ISSF World Cup

Photograph: SAI Media/Twitter Indian women's trap team trio of Kirti Gupta, Manisha Keer and Rajeshwari Kumari lost 4-6 to Russia to settle for a silver medal on the concluding day of the ISSF World Cup in Cairo. The Indian team engineered a fantastic comeback in the gold medal match on Thursday, coming back from 0-4 down to tie the final at 4-4. However, it could not hold on in the last series of 15-shot per team and had to be content with second best. The trio's effort ensured that the Indian squad finished the World Cup with two medals, with the men's skeet team bagging a bronze earlier in the tournament. Kirti, Manisha and Rajeshwari shot a combined score of 444 to make it to the gold medal match along with Russia, who topped the qualifying round with a total of 463.
