A man has been convicted of manslaughter following a motorbike “race” which reached speeds of 240kmh on a rural Southland road. Jacques John Francis De Reeper, a 64-year-old sickness beneficiary, admitted charges of manslaughter and dangerous driving when appearing before Justice Doogue in the High Court at Invercargill on Tuesday. De Reeper was riding with two associates, when one crashed and died at Otahuti after failing to take a bend at high speed on April 13, 2019. Police at the time named the person who died in the incident as Garth Robinson, 56 . A police summary of facts says witnesses at a nearby milking shed heard the sound of screaming engines, with one likening it to a formula one race car travelling at high speed. The former March, Brabham, Shadow and ATS Formula 1 racer will make his first racing appearance since 2017 at the wheel of a KTM X-Bow GT2, specially developed for the am-focused series created for high powered machines not as reliant on downforce as GT3 cars by prolific GT racing promoter SRO. Stuck, who won the 1986 and 1987 editions of the 24 Hours and the 1985 World Sportscar Championship for Porsche, will share one of four Reiter Engineering-entered machines with Austrian driver Kris Rosenberger. In their debut in the Asian Le Mans Series, the all-Malaysian line up in the #7 Jackie Chan DC Racing x JOTA Sport Oreca 05 Nissan has claimed a hard-fought victory in 6 Hours of Buriram. Round 3 saw Jazeman Jaafar, Weiron Tan and Afiq Ikhwan Yazid debut in the Series with the support of the Sepang International Circuit. They were pushed hard throughout the whole race by their teammates in the #8 Oreca, before claiming the first ever all-Malaysian victory in the Asian Le Mans Series. In LMP3, it was the #18 KCMG Motorsport Ligier JS P3 that returned to the top step of the podium.
