Exclusive: After 2020 Gains, Kevin McCarthy Eyes House GOP Majority, Speaker’s Gavel in Midterms

House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy has a fresh spring in his step after the Republicans defied the odds and professional political prognosticators by picking up 15 seats in the 2020 congressional elections. McCarthy, who has his eyes on the majority in November 2022, approached the 2020 congressional elections differently than Republicans in recent history have traditionally targeted congressional electoral efforts, and his moves paid off—and not only infuriated but befuddled the beltway pundit class. Meanwhile, McCarthy blew away fundraising records previously set by former House Speaker Paul Ryan—astonishing since he did it from the minority. Usually, House political leaders do better raising money from the majority. That’s not to mention the most significant development which is a freshman class entering Congress in 2021 that represents perhaps the most diverse in party history with the most … [Read more...] about Exclusive: After 2020 Gains, Kevin McCarthy Eyes House GOP Majority, Speaker’s Gavel in Midterms

Creating Polls For WordPress With Gravity Forms

I’m back with more on Gravity Forms! If you’re a user of the plugin you will know that as well as the core forms functionality, Rocket Genius, the author of Gravity Forms have released a number of add-ons to extend the plugin. In the past the add-ons have been the kind that you’d expect; integration with Mailchimp, AWeber, Freshbooks – all designed so that that once a form is filled in you can send data off to the third party service. I’ve used all of these and they’re rock solid. Other add-ons have been around WordPress integration, allowing a form to create a WordPress user account, or provide a visual captcha tool. So more recently when “Polls”, “Survey” and “Quiz” were all released in quick succession there was a sense that something is changing; the core functionality in Gravity Forms has matured and it’s now time to look around at other functional opportunities. Just this month there is new information about an ‘add on framework’ that just around the corner and an even … [Read more...] about Creating Polls For WordPress With Gravity Forms

“A Very Improbable Utopia”: Oscar-Shortlisted Doc ‘The Speed Cubers’ Goes Inside World Of Rubik’s Cube Competitors

Sue Kim , director of an Oscar-shortlisted short documentary about competitive Rubik’s Cubers, can solve a complex storytelling puzzle in under 40 minutes. In The Speed Cubers Kim rotates between two main characters—Australian Feliks Zembegs and American Max Park, two of the fastest to ever solve cubes in competition. “Feliks is the GOAT in the same way that Michael Jordan is the GOAT. His records may never be broken or no one might ever reach the level of dominance that he reached, but he’s clearly being unseated by Max,” the director tells Deadline. “Max is kind of like LeBron. He’s like the current GOAT, where he’s unbeatable right now, but who knows if he’s going to have the legendary career that Feliks had.” Related Story Dedicated Men, “Incredibly Intelligent” Dogs Pursue Prized Delicacy In Oscar-Shortlisted ‘The Truffle Hunters’ The Speed Cubers recounts how Zemdegs came to the fore in 2013, winning the World Cube Association World Championship.
