WASHINGTON: News of President Donald Trump's COVID-19 diagnosis has upended the United States presidential election campaign entering its final month and roiled stock markets, raising questions about succession and prompting White House aides to insist that Trump would keep a busy, if modified, schedule. Trump's diagnosis was announced on early Friday (Oct 2) morning, but a close adviser to the president tested positive a day before. Over the weekend, more prominent Republicans have been added to the list of those who have tested positive for COVID-19. WHO IN TRUMP'S CIRCLE HAVE TESTED POSITIVE FOR COVID-19? Hope Hicks, a close adviser to the president who often travelled with him on the Air Force One and Marine One presidential aircraft, tested positive for the disease caused by the novel coronavirus on Thursday. After Trump tweeted he and his wife, Melania , tested positive for COVID-19 early Friday morning, Republican National Committee Chair Ronna McDaniel, who has … [Read more...] about Trump White House, campaign staff who have tested positive for COVID-19

Kevin Durant on White House visit with Donald Trump: “Nah, I won’t do that”
It’s not much of a surprise, but at least we have confirmation. If the Golden State Warriors are invited to the White House for a championship visit with Donald Trump, at least one star won’t be going: Kevin Durant . Speaking in an ESPN article published on Thursday, the 2017 NBA Finals MVP said he didn’t respect who currently held the office of president. Durant was interviewed as part of his Kevin Durant Day in his local Washington D.C. area suburb of Seat Pleasant, Maryland. He is not the first NBA player to come forward and speak out about Trump in the aftermath of Charlottesville. LeBron James , Jabari Parker , and other NBA players have denounced the tone of Trump’s politics and positions in the public sphere. The Warriors star had a lot to say on the subject, but I think this was most poignant. Via ESPN : “Nah, I won’t do that,” said Durant, the 2017 NBA Finals MVP. “I don’t respect who’s in office right now.” … “I don’t agree with what he agrees with, … [Read more...] about Kevin Durant on White House visit with Donald Trump: “Nah, I won’t do that”
Trump says he will leave White House if Biden wins Electoral College vote
WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump said on Thursday (Nov 26) he will leave the White House if the Electoral College votes for President-elect Joe Biden, the closest he has come to conceding the Nov 3 election, even as he repeated his unfounded claims of massive voter fraud. Speaking to reporters on the Thanksgiving holiday, Republican Trump said if Democrat Biden - who is due to be sworn in on Jan 20 - is certified the election winner by the Electoral College, he will depart the White House. But Trump said it would be hard for him to concede under the current circumstances and declined to say whether he would attend Biden's inauguration. "This election was a fraud," Trump insisted in a sometimes rambling discourse at the White House, while continuing to offer no concrete evidence of widespread voting irregularities. Biden won the election with 306 Electoral College votes - many more than the 270 required - to Trump's 232, and the electors are scheduled to meet on Dec 14 to … [Read more...] about Trump says he will leave White House if Biden wins Electoral College vote
Trump to meet next week with industry, government officials on COVID-19 vaccine
WASHINGTON: President Donald Trump will gather leaders from industry and government next week for a summit on the coronavirus vaccine, the White House said on Tuesday, as the outgoing president seeks to emphasize his role in the speedy development of a vaccine. "President Trump's Operation Warp Speed continues rapidly advancing toward a safe and effective coronavirus vaccine five times faster than any other vaccine in history," White House spokesman Brian Morgenstern said in a statement. "The President looks forward to convening leaders from the federal government, state governments, private sector, military, and scientific community for a comprehensive discussion with the American people as the Administration prepares to deliver this historic, life-saving vaccine to every zip code in the United States within 24 hours of an FDA approval,” he said. The gathering comes as Trump pressures his Food and Drug Administration to accelerate approval of a vaccine. The FDA declined to … [Read more...] about Trump to meet next week with industry, government officials on COVID-19 vaccine
Biden chides Trump for lack of cooperation on COVID-19 vaccine
WILMINGTON, Delaware: Joe Biden met on Thursday (Nov 19) with governors from both parties and criticised President Donald Trump’s unprecedented attempt to block the peaceful transition of power, saying it was hindering the flow of information about programs to develop a vitally important coronavirus vaccine. He also said he looked forward to bipartisan cooperation that can bolster efforts to slow the pandemic after he takes office. The president-elect reiterated his previous pledges not to institute a nationwide shutdown to curb the virus's spread and repeated that more states instituting mask-wearing mandates could save tens of thousands of lives. “Unfortunately, my administration hasn’t been able to get everything we need,” Biden said during a video conference with the National Governors Association’s leadership team, which consists of five Republicans and four Democrats. He specifically cited Operation Warp Speed, the federal government's partnership with private … [Read more...] about Biden chides Trump for lack of cooperation on COVID-19 vaccine
Trump fires top US election cybersecurity official who defended vote
SAN FRANCISCO: President Donald Trump on Tuesday (Nov 17) fired top US cybersecurity official Chris Krebs in a tweet, accusing him without evidence of making a "highly inaccurate" statement affirming the Nov 3 election was secure and rejecting claims of fraud. Trump has made debunked allegations that the election was "rigged" and has refused to concede defeat to President-elect Joe Biden. His campaign has filed a flurry of lawsuits in battleground states, although election officials in both parties have said they see no evidence of serious irregularities. Reuters reported last week that Krebs, who worked on protecting the election from hackers but drew the ire of the Trump White House over efforts to debunk disinformation, had told associates he expected to be fired.
