FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA.—Thong bikinis, cold beer and maskless throngs. That’s how spring break looked Thursday on the famous Fort Lauderdale strip, just days into the start of the popular college pasttime that lasts into April. Universities across the country cancelled spring break to discourage college coeds from spreading the coronavirus. But judging from the crowds hitting the beach, the kids are here in full force, pandemic or not. “I was here two years ago and came back to see what it’s like now with COVID,” said 21-year-old Jack Gumeinny, who flew down from frigid Michigan on Sunday and plans to head home Saturday. “Florida hasn’t skipped a beat.” Gumeinny, a junior at Davenport University, shrugged at the lack of social distancing. “We’re not in the at-risk group,” he said. Gumeinny said he and his buddies planned to head to a strip club in between bar hopping. On Thursday, they partied at Café Ibiza, surrounded by a crowd of maskless studentes dancing to the loudest … [Read more...] about Spring break crowds hit Fort Lauderdale despite COVID-19

‘Boss Level’ is just an ultra-violent ‘Groundhog Day’ that’s unexpectedly fun
(CNN) At first, "Boss Level" seems as familiar and derivative as it is unnecessary -- basically just an insanely-violent version of "Groundhog Day," with Frank Grillo caught in a time loop and trying to fight his way out of it. Stick with it, though, and the Hulu movie sort of grows on you, mindless fun that finds the comic absurdities in its protagonist's highly repetitive plight. The supporting cast, frankly, feels like something of a distraction. The controversial Mel Gibson plays the main bad guy, a pretty stock character, while Naomi Watts parachutes in as the hero's ex, a scientist who has placed him in the time loop, hoping his special-forces skills will help him find a way to navigate through the dense web of trained assassins. As directed and co-written by Joe Carnahan (who worked with Grillo on "The Grey"), what makes "Boss Level" more than tolerable is the way Grillo's Roy Pulver learns things the hard way, dying in one version of events before coming back and … [Read more...] about ‘Boss Level’ is just an ultra-violent ‘Groundhog Day’ that’s unexpectedly fun

Is Adidas giving free shoes on Women’s Day? Don’t fall for this WhatsApp scam
Popular messaging platform WhatsApp has become vulnerable to different kinds of scams that often con users with dubious offers. Certain offers that look too good to be true are often forwarded through this instant messaging service. The latest WhatsApp scam is on an offer by Adidas for women on the occasion of International Women’s Day. Nowadays, a WhatsApp message with a link saying “Adidas Women’s Day gift” is being circulated which claims to be an offer from Adidas giving away 1 million pairs of shoes for Women’s Day. At the first glance, the link itself looks suspicious given the nature of the message. Besides that, there are also some other things to notice such as the URL which misspelled the word “Adidas” as “Adidass”. If a user clicks on the link, it takes you to a whole new page with the message, “Congratulations! You have a chance to get free shoes provided by Adidas for Women’s Day.” There’s also a picture of a pair of Adidas shoes on the page. On top, the Adidas … [Read more...] about Is Adidas giving free shoes on Women’s Day? Don’t fall for this WhatsApp scam
