Struggling Milan visits Verona needing to rebuild confidence

MILAN - As far as collapses go, AC Milan’s isn’t all that spectacular. It hasn’t even had much of an impact on the Serie A standings. At the beginning of the year, Milan was in first place in the league and hadn’t lost in 10 months. But the team could find itself six points behind league leader Inter Milan ahead of Sunday’s tricky match at Hellas Verona. Milan was in astounding form in 2020, losing only two games in the entire calendar year, but the team has lost four of its 11 league matches in 2021. The first of those was against Juventus on Jan. 6, ending the Rossoneri’s 27-match unbeaten run. Milan has since lost its sense of invincibility and Wednesday’s 1-1 draw against Udinese capped a miserable month which has seen the team lose two of its last four league matches with only one victory. When Milan’s form first started to dip, coach Stefano Pioli said he was not too concerned. That has changed. “We could have and should have done more,” Pioli said after the match … [Read more...] about Struggling Milan visits Verona needing to rebuild confidence

COVID-19: Italy and EU block Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine shipment to Australia as shortages row escalates

Italy and the European Commission have blocked a shipment of AstraZeneca's COVID-19 vaccine destined for Australia. The British-Swedish drug manufacturer had failed to meet its EU contract commitments so the Italian government refused its request to export 250,000 doses from its Anagni plant near Rome, according to the Reuters news agency. Italy made the request and it was signed off by the European Commission under a new export control system that came into law on 30 January. This is the first time it has been used by a member state. It is understood the doses will now be redistributed within the EU, where about 8% of the population has been vaccinated, compared with more than 30% in the UK. Italian court lifts special administration for Uber Italia

Uber Technologies after the company complied with all the orders made by the judges, a court document showed. On Wednesday, a public prosecutor had asked the court to revoke the so-called special administration, which was ordered last year as part of an investigation into alleged exploitation of food delivery riders . " Uber Italy ... can now present itself on the food delivery market with a new management model that is uniquely geared towards promoting transparency and legality", the court document said. The judges also wrote their decision was influenced by the fact Uber had quickly complied with all their requests. Uber Italia had no immediate comment on Thursday. On Wednesday, in response to the prosecutor's request to revoke the special administration, it had said: "Today's decision is the result of several months of hard work in which we have strived to provide couriers with a safe, rewarding and flexible working environment," adding it would continue to … [Read more...] about Italian court lifts special administration for Uber Italia

EU Blocks Vaccine Shipment to Australia: Report

The European Commission has reportedly authorised the Italian government to block a shipment of AstraZeneca vaccines destined for Australia, using for the first time an export control system the EU created if it deemed a drugs company had failed to deliver its orders to the European Union. Two sources speaking to Reuters said on Thursday that the EU’s powerful executive arm had agreed to Italy’s request to deny Swedish-British firm AstraZeneca to ship 250,000 doses of its coronavirus vaccine from its Anagni plant, near the Italian capital of Rome. If correct, the move would be the latest row between the drugs company and the European Union. In January, AstraZeneca told the EU that owing to production issues at its European plants, the first batch would be smaller than expected. The Commission blamed the drugs company and claimed it was favouring Brexit Britain over Europe, while its CEO Pascal Soriot said that British orders would be on time because London had signed an … [Read more...] about EU Blocks Vaccine Shipment to Australia: Report
